Had to muster up the courage to get out of our warm bed this morning to make coffee and then exercise. Did an 8km run and could feel that I have been a bit sedentary in the last few weeks. Oh well I will soon be back training again… We all had breakfast at the lodge and then headed out to buy supplies for our next 6 days. For 4 days we have no access to shops or gas so a lot of planning required. The stores were pretty good – went to Spar and Woolworths, yes they had one. A very tiny Woolworths with some dry food, decent selection of fresh food and assorted cheese, cold meats and some frozen goods only, nothing else. We ran around between the two stores and got most of what we required. We have decided to bake in the coming days – bread and apple crumble so also had to purchase a flat potjie size 3. Found one and are hopeful there will be a photo of apple crumble made on the fire with love… We also had to try and replace a fuse that belongs to our fridge but no luck with that. After the third auto repair parts store we gave up. If we roll the fridge will not survive but we decided that was the least of our worries. Last stop was the bottle store and the butchery. All done and we are set for our drive tomorrow and the next 4 to 6 days. 5pm and it is time for another sunset cruise. Dinner was amazing – highlights were rotisserie chicken, oxtail potjie and corn soufflé, even took the recipe of the corn soufflé to try it one night at camp. We finished off the evening with a nightcap with the locals at the bar – they had stories to tell… It seems that some foreigners land in Africa, fall in love with the continent and never leave, on the other hand you have the “locals” who adopt the bush as their home instead of the city. A great end to our stay at Thamalakane.
