We were entertained to an amazing cultural experience this evening. The team at Bisate prepared a traditional Rwandan meal with live entertainment. We started with fired fish and banana chips with drinks. I opted for a glass of champagne, deserved after the hike, and Glenn a beer. Benjamin did some educational discussion and Alice was the lead singer in the ensemble which included all kitchen staff. Her performance was incredible. We also all received a gift – you each pick one item out of a basket. I chose the tomato tree fruit… Starters were a vegetarian samosa, a mushroom skewer and some salad. Light and tasty. The main course was served family style on platters with each dish individually platted. A kaleidoscope of color and tastes – fried banana, steamed spinach, tilapia in a spicy coconut sauce, pork stew, steamed pumpkin, rice, bean sauce and a tomato sauce with condiments. Desert was a traditional donut with ice-cream, very different to a western donut, bite size and not too sweet. A feast to remember!!!

We had Tilapia last Friday night…found a delicious recipe and it was fantastic. What kind of beer do they have?
Kilimanjaro and Serengeti beer.
